following information is culled from a variety of web sites that I
visited on my first fascinating Enneagram explorations, on the 3rd
November, 2003, and I will give full credit, If
they are 'Your Words' then I'd love to hear from you The Types

Rational, Idealistic Type: Resentment with the fear of being wrong, bad, evil or corruptible. In
a search for perfection, Self

Perfectionist-These people take action to create a logical and orderly outer world. They do not feel that this order is based on their will but upon objective universal rules and laws that give them a sense of what is right, correct and fair. They believe that most human problems would simply not exist if everyone followed such rules and they actively promote this view in the outer world of people and things. They seek and create environments and cultivate kindred spirits where such rules govern the conduct of the day. They not only comply with the rules but they are confident that they can write these rules for themselves and everyone else. They know what is right and how to write the rules to make it happen. This also includes the administrator or manager who writes (or rewrites) the instructions to change the traditional approach to things! These occupations are heavily Business. Manager:

Helper-These people seek closure with other people. This closure seeks to be influential in the decisions of those important to the Helper. They willingly help those who accept their influence and appreciate their efforts. They genuinely enjoy the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. They do caring things that make logical sense. Hence they will be drawn to and create environments that service the needs of others and are personally rewarding to them. We find them in high touch occupations that provide services and consultation. Traditionally, women have staffed many of these occupations. Helpers are attracted to Business, Religion and Education. Human
Resources Planner Calls attention to what they have done for others. 3 THE ACHIEVER The
Success-Oriented, Pragmatic Type: Vanity with the fear of being incompetent, inefficient, unmasked or unable to do In
a search for hope, the attention of the Three goes to Self
Definition Avoidance Goal Motivator-These Heart people operate from the collective personal values of their constituency. They know, instinctively, what a group wants or they can find out very rapidly. They know how to present an image that responds to the desires of the group. As such they can be very influential in group settings or one-on-one. They seek positions which influence the decisions that are made. They will do their own homework and utilize marketing research. They seek the opportunity to become role models for co-workers and clients, alike. The more people that they can influence, the more successful they become. Hence, the Motivator can be found anywhere from entry level, looking up, to the top, basking in adulation. Opportunities for Motivators are found in Education, Religion and Health occupations. Sister

Specialists-These people have a unique inner vision of possibility that they struggle to share with others. They will not accept the help of others in shaping their vision but do seek to evoke a recognition (closure) of this vision on the part of others. They seek and create environments that will allow them to nourish and express this inner vision. Ideally this environment will allow them creative expression and a receptive audience. Interestingly these people appear to have utilized education and professional status to gain a forum for their inner vision. Specialists find occupations in Education, Religion, Science, Arts and Health. Architect

Thinker-These people are open and flexible. They like to watch both the present and possible, quietly ponder and use linear logic to predict the way things will unfold. They seek the resources that will allow them to proceed with this grand investigation. They generally have an individual journey and seek few companions. They seek to create environments that will allow them to reflect and acquire what they need. As a result of their efforts they tend to have insight into things that are formative, including natural laws. The Thinker finds occupations in Science, Trades or Justice. Naval

Committed, Security-Oriented Type: Fear

a search for faith and security, the attention of the Six Self
Definition Avoidance Goal Loyalist-These people are actually open and flexible but they operate under an umbrella of protection. A person, group, institution or the workplace can provide this protection. Loyalists display a fierce loyalty to the source of his/her protection. Their inner world of subjective personal values polices the workplace in the same way that "junk yard dogs" protect their turf! Any change sensed in the present environment will be assessed relative to their protection. As this processing takes place, the Loyalist will lift up objections to any change. After processing, the Loyalist will either be inalterably opposed to the change or will allow the change to take place. If the change enhances protection, the Loyalist will have invented the change and be its biggest advocate. The Loyalist really believes that he/she, better than others, represents the best interests of the protecting person or group. Towards superiors (source of protection) there will be abject subjugation, with same expected from their subordinates. Opportunities for loyalty come from Business and Trades Stock
Clerk or Storekeeper Tendency to be Defensive. 7 THE ENTHUSIAST The

They drink in all that life has to offer and invite others to join them in the quest. When they are not experiencing an adventure, they are actively planning their next one. They tend to develop a wide range of practical skills and logically decide that more is better. They look for and create environments that will afford these experiences (or, at least, support their habit for experiences) and congenial companionships. The congenial experience of adventure is an essential part of this environment. Finally, all of this experience results in the development of a surprisingly broad range of practical skills and abilities, which they may or may not choose to utilize. The Enthusiast enjoys occupations in the Trades and Justice. Marketing

These people will work strenuously to bring their vision to reality. They readily enlist the support of those who share this vision and they confront those who do not share it. Their inner world accommodates both objective logic and subjective personal values. They seek and actively create environments that will give them the tools (both people and things) to bring their vision into reality. They are certainly "enterprising" but economic gain (while it may come; they sell a vision, not a product) is not the motivating factor. Many of their opportunities come from the Arts and Mental occupations. Journalist
Always in control. 9 THE PEACEMAKER The
Easygoing, Self-Effacing Type: Indolence with the fear of being shutout, loveless, discordant or inharmonious In

goes to Self
Definition Avoidance Goal Peacemaker-These people enjoy places that have external peace and harmony. However, they can take action in bringing peace and harmony to places of discord. They are uniquely equipped to do this job as they are not really interested in either "closing" or "opening" the outer world. They are simply out of touch with the agendas that the rest of us carry into our outer world pursuits. Hence they do not have the baggage that most of us carry in a conflicted situation. In fact, the Peacemaker always wonders, deep in their heart, how the situation resulted in conflict in the first place. Nothing is that important to the Peacemaker. Restoring the peace is, however. Because he/she lacks an agenda, the Peacemaker can accurately reflect how each of the conflicted parties appears to the other. The Peacemaker does not accept any of the excuses for the disagreement since they firmly believe that there is no excuse for conflict! When the conflict is resolved, no one is more surprised than the Peacemaker. We find Peacemakers in the Trades, and Business occupations. Child
