Graham Drake's notes
on his explorations into NLP

From 'an Introduction to NLP'
by Tad James, M.S., Ph.d,
Certified NLP Master Trainer.

Bandler and Grinder discovered
that by looking at someone's eyes

You could tell HOW they think.

Not what they think,

  but HOW they think.

You can tell what they're doing inside.

NLP is about noticing patterns.

Pay attention to the process of your interaction with others.
Watch the form.
Listen to the form.
Feel the form.
Don't get involved in the content.

THE MODALITIES
Models categorise what a person does inside their head
as they make up an Internal Representation.

Eye Movements
as You look at a Right Handed Person
hover over the blank space

Up and to their Right
Up and to their Left

Vc - VISUAL CONSTRUCTED - created

Vr - VISUAL REMEMBERED - recalled

What would your bedroom, at home,
look like, if it were painted yellow?

What colour was the bedroom
that you grew up in?

Some people 'centre' their eyes and defocus

Horizontally to their right
Horizontally to their left

Ac - AUDITORY CONSTRUCTED -
created

Ar - AUDITORY REMEMBERED
- recalled

What would 'Swan Lake" sound like
if it were played on bagpipes?
What was the last thing
that I said?

Can you remember the sound
of your Mother's\Teachers voice?

Down and to their right
Down and to their left

K - KINESTHETIC

Ar - AUDITORY DIGITAL
Feelings

Internal Dialogue

Sense of Touch

Talking to Yourself

What does it feel like
to touch that rug?
Can you recite
 the National Anthem?

When People look up, in thought, they are visualizing.

When they look horizontally, to the right or left,
they are constructing or remembering sounds.

When they look downward, and to your left,
they're accessing their feelings.
When they look downward, and to your right,
they're talking to themselves.

People rely on their 5 Senses
to make Internal Representation's about the world around them.

1 of three comes to the for.

VISUAL Representational System
"See you later, I want to look at it, focus on it, watch it,
be clear, foggy, picture that, notice, appears"
Top of chest breathing.

AUDITORY Representational System
"Listen, talk to, said, speak, hear,
and sounds like 'Good to talk to you'"
Middle of chest breathing.

KINESTHETIC Representational System
"Feelings, get in touch, hold, grasp, handle"
Bottom of lungs breathing.

Once I've got the hang of this eye contact stuff
I'll have a go at Rapport.
