we took a taxi
with Sarah and Mark
to Rhodes (Rodos) Old Town

fortifications built by
The Knights of the Order of St. John
the Hospitallers in 1309


stunned by the scale of the citadel

we walked and admired
oblivious of the heat


Knights Street
huge walls
encompassing the Old Town



stood strong till 1522
when Sultan Suleiman 1
took the city after a famous siege



after meandering
through many cobbled streets


the view from the clock tower
was quite superb
as was the refreshing drink
included in the ticket price





we arrived at Mandraki Harbour
and a refreshing breeze

another refreshing drink
was well needed

by the time we got back to the taxi rank
on our way to see
Sarah and Mark's hotel room

later
after enjoying another fine hotel meal
we relaxed in the hotel bar
throughout the evening

 

 

before retiring to our balcony
to enjoy the bottle of Champagne
and a good nights sleep

looking forward
to the morning
