Graham Drake's UFO Sighting

UFO Sighting over Dee Estuary

Sorry about the poor quality of the scan above but the parrot managed to destroy most of the original paper.

UFO's

What is your definition of an
Unidentified Flying Object.
That's if it is an object.
Apparently one was seen over Chester
at the weekend.

For sceptics, who claim that one person can be mistaken, and he can convince others that something is there (even if it isn't), we have three individual sightings to report.

At about 9.20 pm on Saturday, Mr. Graham Drake and his friend, Mr David Jonathan, of Glan Aber Park, stopped their car when they saw a bright object in the sky above them.

For five minutes they watched it, until it went behind a cloud bank and failed to materialise again.

Rushing home to tell his wife, Mr Drake, of Nine Houses, Tattenhall, found that she had seen it for herself and was patiently waiting to tell him all about it!

She had seen it from a downstairs window and had gone upstairs and seen it at the back of the house from another window.

SURPRISED

Although these sightings caused much interest in the house, the couple were surprised to learn that it wasn't a nine day wonder in the village.

They were relieved when they were shopping in Upton on Monday to bump into someone else who had also seen it while driving.

I never used to think very seriously about them when sightings were reported throughout the country, but I will be keeping a keen eye out in future.

Experimental

Reflection - January 1999

After having some friends over for the weekend, I offered to drive them back to their homes and, after dropping one off in Plough Lane, Christleton, I then headed back towards the crossroads, by The Plough Inn. I noticed an object in the sky and promptly slowed the car down and pointed it out to David. At the crossroads I saw a lay-by on the road ahead and after checking the road across, as well as the sky, I parked the car off-road and we got out.

The clear azure sky of a warm summer's evening contrasted with the metallic object as it continued to move silently in a northerly direction. My impression of shape was that its sphericalness was somewhat between an airship and a cigar. Size was difficult to gauge, due to the lack of markings, windows or extraneous objects and the clear blue sky, but I venture that if I saw the Firestone airship from 10 miles away, it would be smaller than that which I saw that day. While I described the sky as clear, there was one little puff of cloud, out to the right, about four times the size of the object and we were amazed when the object arrived, entered and disappeared.

From first sighting to disappearance was probably in the order of two minutes and my logic says that anything observed at a constant speed in a constant direction will continue on its given path, we waited, a chap walking past with his dog must have wondered what we were up to, standing there looking at a cloud so intensely. Stunned at what we had just seen we eventually gave up and I took David home where we excitedly recounted our experiences to David's family. After a calming cup of tea, I made my way home, scanning the darkened sky.

After parking the car I eagerly entered the house, only to find that Sylvia had gone to bed, unusual thought I but determined to disturb her sleep as I called up and climbed the stairs. Half way up I realised that she was telling me something excitedly and I ceased my ramblings. Frustration turned to incredulity as she told me her story.

While it was a lovely old house it suffered from having the front door open directly into the living room and, through the small glass partition in the door, Sylvia noticed a strong red glow. Concerned that the pub across the road was on fire, Sylvia got up to see what was going on. She was relieved that the glow was further away, probably outside the village and that it wasn't a fire but rather concerned that she didn't know what it was.

I asked Sylvia tonight for her recollection and she described the glow as being like the smoky haze above a bonfire, but bright red. Not being very easy with strange stuff, Sylvia stopped looking when the glow started moving and was more than startled when she saw the (or a) glow as she hurriedly closed the curtains of the back bedroom.

Whether connected by a common source or by separate entities, I really don't know, but the coincidence of us both experiencing a happening of such strangeness leads me to wonder a lot, especially as I look up at the sky above.

and there's more...

On the Monday, at my fathers suggestion, I phoned the local police and the local press, to see if they could explain what we had seen but no other reports had been logged. The realities of life intruded and I set out to do some work. I had to call at one of the dealers that we sub-contracted for and unabashed by probable ridicule, I had to recount the previous days experiences. I was well surprised when one of the engineers started asking about the timing of my sighting and explained that he had had to stop his car on the Chester by-pass (a couple of miles from the Plough Lane crossroads) as he and his wife watched a strange metallic object in the sky until it went out of sight.

I am satisfied that something was out there that night that defies conventional wisdom as much as my encounter with Spiritualism does.
